The Five-Layer Formula for Failure-Proof Goals in 2024: Cultivating Your Life Garden
Cultivating Your Life Garden: Sowing the Seeds of Success in the New Year
The journey of transformation begins within your mind
As the year draws to a close and the dawn of 2024 approaches, it's not merely a time for conventional goal setting; rather, envision yourself as a gardener preparing to cultivate a new field, bestowed upon you as a heavenly gift. Begin by expressing gratitude for the privilege of entering the New Year—a privilege not granted to everyone. Acknowledge that some may not have the opportunity to enter into this new territory.
Consider the New Year as a metaphorical field, ripe for transformation into a flourishing garden where you can reap an abundant harvest of success, joy, peace, happiness, and wisdom. Just as a well-designed garden requires careful planning, so does a fulfilling life.
Jim Rohn aptly stated, "A life best lived is a life by design." As beings created in the image of God, we carry inherent glories that shape our life mission. The layers of life—spirit, physical body, talent and skills, financial freedom, relationships, and influence—form the foundation for a well-designed life, starting at the core: the spirit.
The spirit, the seed of our existence, sets the direction and defines our values. Just as a plant's seed determines its colors and shapes, our beliefs shape who we are. Begin by self-examining and reflecting on your beliefs and values, ensuring they align with the goals you wish to achieve. If your aspirations clash with your beliefs, consider adjusting your mindset to pave the way for success.
1. Spirit
o Set goals within your mind, heart, and spirit: Establish goals within your mind, heart, spirit, or soul—these define your values and set the direction.
o Conduct self-examination to align your beliefs with your goals: Reflect on what truly you believe and value. Do they support your goals? Ensure harmony between what you believe and what you aim to achieve. If you set up a goal to become an AI leader, but they do not believe power of AI that can transform your organization then you will not be able to achieve your goal at all.
o Consider changing your mindset if necessary: Be open to changing your mindset to align with your ultimate goals.
Just like a plant's seed determines its characteristics – color and shape, your beliefs shape who you are.
To change for something great, you have to start with your mind, heart, and spirit – the values you hold.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will (Roman 12:2)
2. Physical Body
o Your health reflects your inner self and influences productivity: Your physical body, appearance and health reflect your inner self and impact your productivity. Evaluate and understand the importance of maintaining good health.
o Establish goals for physical health that align with the level of commitment needed to achieve your broader goals.
View the physical body as the soil for your goals—rich soil nurtures healthy plants.
3. Talent and Skills
o Assess your innate talents that align with your goals. Identify the skills or techniques necessary for task fulfillment.
o Identify and acquire the skills or techniques necessary for goal achievement: If you lack certain skills, make sure set up plans to learn them or leverage others’ support to reach your end goals
Treat talents and skills as gardening techniques, essential for optimal growth much like spacing, watering, and fencing, vital for optimal growth.
4. Financial
o Assess both effort and financial investments required for your endeavors: Any endeavor takes both labor efforts and financial cost, make sure you have right financial level to move your endeavor forward
o Define the goal for return on investment (ROI) and its impact on your life and community: Consider how your goal on ROI will contribute and impact your life – family, friends, or community.
Consider financial investment as fertilizers for your garden of life and the harvest as the rewards of your labor.
5. Relationships and Influence
What are your ultimate aspirations concerning relationships and contributions to others, be it on a personal or global scale? It holds significance to identify moments where you can make meaningful contributions by sharing the fruits of your labor with family and friends. Engaging in open communication and positively influencing others is the key. Consider avenues such as charitable donations, community-building events, or the establishment of foundations as part of this impactful endeavor.
As the New Year begins, design your goals around these five layers. Evaluate the current state of each layer, align your goals accordingly, and ensure they complement each other rather than compete. Embrace the metaphor of cultivating a garden, and let the seeds you plant in each layer flourish into a year of fulfillment and the realization of your overall life mission.
