Go for Your Signature Vision

Updated: Feb 13, 2022

Following GPS: Goals, Positioning and Supports

Go in and take possession of the land the Lord swore he would give to your fathers —Deuteronomy 1:8

When Moses led Israelis to their promised land, Canaan, a land of flowing with milk and honey, it took them about forty years in wilderness because of their unwillingness to the land and rebellion. On the fortieth year, the Lord our God said to us at Horeb, “You have stayed long enough at this mountain. … I have given you this land. Go in and take possession of the land the Lord swore he would give to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—and to their descendants after them.” (Deuteronomy 1:6-8)

The land of Canaan is the vision that God gave to Israel and they have to stand up and go to there. Now your vision from God is your land of Canaan, your fullest in life, that you have to take action and go to there, though the journey is bumpy and winding just like Israel’s journey.

>> If you have not found your signature vision yet, you can follow the path designed and use find your signature vision questionnaires free document to help find your unique talent, strength and signature vision.

Life’s journey is not the same as a physical travel to a specific destination. With modern technology, a GPS, we simply put the address into a GPS, hit the button, then we are ready to be on our way. How nice it is if we can find something like a GPS to instruct us on our life journey!

To be successful on our journey to our vision, we first need to plan the journey. As Benjamin Franklin once said, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.” The process of planning is to create a roadmap from where we are to where we will go. There are two points: Point A, your starting point—your current state, situation and environment—and Point B—your vision, your tomorrow, your future. The plan is to draw a roadmap between A and B. There may be multiple plans or routes and choose the best one.

Second, you do need a GPS on the journey to your signature vision so that you will not get lost ending up in the wrong place. The GPS stands for immediate Goals, Positioning and Support. It provides you with instant, immediate, and real time guidance from God. God gives you the vision; God has led Israel to the land of Canaan. Now He is also partnering with you on your journey to the vision He gave you. On your journey, you need to constantly be checking in with Him for your immediate goals, correct position and location. Sometimes you may get lost or go to the wrong direction because of all kinds of temptations and distractions. If you constantly ask for His guidance, you will get the right support to correct your direction and keep on the right track.

Goals are immediate short-term specific objectives within a larger vision. You have to set them up like the miles you plan to drive each hour or each day when you go on a long trip that spans thousands of miles. You have to segment your big plan into integrated small pieces and accomplish one piece at a time.

Positioning is critical as making mistakes and losing direction are almost unavoidable during a journey, no matter how careful you plan and prepare in detail. We are living in a constantly changing world. The roadmap we drew yesterday may be obsolete tomorrow. Some roads may be closed, so you may have to take a detour. New roads are developed, and you’ll learn to take on the new route and, most importantly, speed up.

Support is at the core of an execution plan. Without support from people, it’s hard to achieve anything. We need support for setting goals and getting back on the right track when we get lost and need to correctly reposition ourselves. We also need support in general from friends, family, and even people we do not know. We can get that support simply by learning from others. There are laws that determine success and failure. Learning from successful examples will teach you the law of success.

We can also seek support from the Maker, God, as He is the most intelligent one and nothing is impossible with Him.

God gave you a vision and He wants you to reach your fullest and be in the land He promised you, Canaan.

Do not stay where you are very long in your current wilderness! Take action, have a plan and go for your signature vision by following your GPS - Goals, Positioning and Supports.
