It does matter how much you achieved in 2021, you still can live a better year in 2022 if you set your mind to be better and greater. Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past (Isaiah 43:18) And C.S. Lewis well said, “You can't go back and change the beginning but you can start where you are and change the ending.”
Believe you are wonderfully made by God and you have some unique gifts that no one else has. The world needs your gift to make it brighter and more beautiful. It’s your accountability to use your talent and add values to others meanwhile make your life much richer both spiritually and financially so you can offer more.
No matter where you are now, if you are willing to partner with God, He can make a huge difference as He said, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland (Isaiah 43:19)
In the article I will introduce four steps and three levers to help you live your 2022 best year ever. Each day you will start with clear direction and two to three specific goals with fresh energy and excitement so you can live to your fullest in twenty four hours full of meaning, purpose, and gratitude.
Step 1 – Draw a Big Picture
Most people are caught up in life because of lacking a big picture and life vision. And people talk about goal setting without mentioning a big picture. A big picture provides you with overall direction and boundaries so each of your goals or steps is well aligned with your life vision; it gives you a bird’s eye view and lays out a canvas to draw your dreams; it helps you position where you are on your journey. A big picture is similar to build a mansion with a drawing and a framework before every stone or brick is put in the right places.
In your big picture, you should ask what are key objectives to accomplish at the end of 2022? Are they well aligned with your life vision? To align with your life vision and mission, you have to find your signature vision first then set up the objectives.
If you have not found your signature vision, please read the blog, The Path to Find Your Signature Vision. Please also download document, Find your signature vision questionnaires.
Step 2 – Develop a Roadmap
Once you draw the big picture with a list of objectives, it’s time to develop your roadmap. In the roadmap, you should have a timeline on horizontal axis, and the number of goals to achieve on vertical axis, a series of milestones and they can be monthly and quarterly milestones. Make sure you milestones are well aligned with each of specific goals. Please reference chart above.
Your roadmap is your specific plans with a list of goals – a breakdown of your objectives so they are achievable and realistic. To align your goals with your life vision, make sure your goals have a mix of short term and long term goals.
Remember that every choice you make sows a seed of destination; every start has an end and the path you take today decides the end tomorrow.
Step 3 – Define Metrics
SMART approach is well used for setting goals and it means Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic or Relevant and Time-bound. On your roadmap, make sure your goals specific, achievable and realistic also make sure your goals measurable - define the right metric to measure the results so you can manage your progress because if you cannot measure it, you cannot manage it. Your metric should include both quantity and quality. For example, the number of goals to achieve and what the result look like such as the number of pounds you lose in a week or the percent of return on your investment.
Step 4 – Turn your goals into reality
The last step is to roll up your sleepers and do it day by day, week by week, month and month, and quarter by quarter until you achieve one milestone followed by another to all your objectives.
While you are on your journey, you need three levers to help you overcome unexpected obstacles or any challenges.
Lever 1: Focus and Discipline
Nowadays, many shining objects can grab your attention and distract you from your path. I constantly face the challenges. So you have to be well disciplined and have a strong will to focus on your goals. Have a laser focus is the key to make any breakthroughs. If emails distract you, please do not check your emails before you get specific goals down, if social media leads you astray, please tune off all the social media on your phone, iPod or computers.
Every morning, write down your top two or three goals first and set them as your #1 priority, get them down by blocking dedicated hours before you can get time on anything else.
Lever 2: Resilience and Grit
On your journey, it’s possible you get lost or fail on reaching some goals sometime. You have to be resilience so you can continue your journey from where you are and be perseverance to navigate through any obstacles and climb mountains to reach your destination.
Your barriers may come from internal and external world.
The internal barriers are yourself, inside you. They are self-egos and selfishness, conceit, cynicism, jealousy, procrastination. You have to conquer yourself and look in the mirror and have the courage to face and conquer your own problems and take accountability, do not blame others.
It’s like a seed with a hard shell and the seed has to break out its shell first before the new life sprouts out. To live out your best, you have to be broken first just like a baby bird has to break out its egg’s shell to get out and grow and fly. The process of self-brokenness is not pleasant at all instead it’s full of pains and risks. It requires determination and perseverance. Transformation starts with dying to oneself – the ego part.

And it help you conquer your personal problems(Chapter 5-7)
Once you succeed in conquering yourself, the next step is to overcome the obstacles from the outside world, all kinds of roadblocks on the way: rejections, persecutions, cynicism, jealousy, criticism and distractions, etc.
Once upon a time, a donkey fell into a deep well; the owner could not pull it out no matter how hard he tried. Sadly he decided to bury it alive. He shoveled dirt into the well and it fell on the back of donkey, immediately the donkey shaken off the dirt and stepped on it and stepped up. The more dirt the man poured in, the higher the donkey rose. Finally it went out of the well into a green pasture.
Like the donkey, you have to turn all the problems into step stones to reach the top of your success mountain. You have to conquer all the roadblocks before you are able to bud, bloom and bear fruits.
